Description of Project:
In December 2004 a tsunami tidal wave swept across the Indian Ocean, affecting the coasts of countries in the Bay of Bengal and Eastern Africa. Immediate short-term assistance was provided to FAO on tsunami issues.

Services Provided:
Assistance was provided to the FAO regional office in Bangkok in the collection, collation and dissemination of data from all countries in the region on the impacts of the tsunami. Technical advice was also provided on strategic frameworks and project formulation for post-tsunami rehabilitation activities.
